Little boy standing outside boundary
Hesitant the event inside carries on
The grass green beyond his muddy
Stance mind fearful holding back
Other people deserve to have fun
Frozen stick figure grey and distant
His sneakers and jeans falling off
Wondering if his hair looks any good
Everything likely is laughably wrong
Lacking that self-worthy confidence
Becoming the ridiculed adult without
Realising any other normal exists
The normal of the well-parented
Or possessing any parenting at all
The future rehab or jail attendee
Little boy standing outside boundary
Boundary between worthy unworthy
Lifter and leaner, Gifted and failure
Every cruelty of fate’s summary here
This event of laughter and privilege
Laughing at those beyond boundaries
